Resources
Nothing on this page is trying to sell you a programme, a clinic, or a device. These are the independent bodies we turn to when we want to check a fact about neuro-rehabilitation, and they are worth reading directly rather than through us. None of them profit from your treatment decisions, which is exactly why they are here.
Guidelines and clinical bodies
- NICE guideline NG236, stroke rehabilitation in adults. The reference standard in the UK for what rehabilitation after stroke should look like, from intensity of therapy to what to expect over time.
- The Royal College of Physicians. Publishers of the National Clinical Guideline for Stroke and a broad source on rehabilitation medicine.
Stroke charities and patient support
- The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association. Clear, well-sourced patient information on stroke, warning signs, and life after a stroke.
- The Stroke Association. A leading charity for survivors and their families, with practical support and plain-language explanations of the recovery journey.
Evidence and specialist rehabilitation
- Cochrane reviews. Independent systematic reviews that gather up the trials on a rehabilitation approach and tell you, without commercial interest, what the evidence actually shows.
- Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. A specialist rehabilitation institution and a respected source on the science and practice of relearning movement and function after brain injury.
These bodies deal in general information for a wide audience. They cannot see your scans or know your case, and neither can we. Please read anything here alongside our Medical Disclaimer, and take decisions about your own recovery with the team looking after you.
